Common warning signs
Appliances may report low AC, compressors may fail to start, lights can change when large loads engage, or a transfer device may chatter. Problems that appear only at one campsite and disappear on a known-good supply strongly suggest the incoming source or connection.
Safe checks from inside the RV
Turn off air conditioning, electric water heating, space heaters, and other large loads. Read an installed or plug-in RV voltage monitor. Confirm that the shore cord and adapter are correct for the RV and fully seated after de-energizing the pedestal in the approved way.
- Inspect plugs for heat damage or discoloration before reconnecting.
- Avoid long, undersized household extension cords.
- Ask campground staff to inspect a questionable pedestal.
- Try a known-good approved source rather than repeatedly resetting breakers.
Why the appliance code matters
A refrigerator's low-AC warning can be evidence about the supply rather than a failed refrigerator. Likewise, an air-conditioner compressor or inverter fault can follow poor voltage. Record which equipment was running and the voltage shown when the fault occurred.
Do not service live distribution equipment
Pedestals and RV breaker panels contain hazardous voltage. Do not remove covers, tighten live terminals, defeat surge protection, or increase a breaker rating. Use a campground electrician or qualified RV electrical technician.
