How to Find an RV Appliance Model and Serial Number

Why the model number changes the answer

An RV may contain equipment from several manufacturers and model years. The coach year does not reliably identify the appliance year because builders can use inventory manufactured earlier, and owners may replace equipment later.

A code such as E1 can describe communication, a sensor, ignition, or another condition depending on the control system. Matching only the brand and code can lead to the wrong reset or an unsafe assumption.

Where to look by appliance type

Start with the appliance turned off and use a flashlight rather than removing energized covers. Generator plates are commonly inside or near the service-access area. Refrigerator labels may be inside the fresh-food compartment or near the exterior access opening. Furnace labels are often visible from the exterior service panel. Rooftop air-conditioner model information may be on the ceiling assembly and on the rooftop unit.

• Generator: model, specification letter, serial number, and fuel type.
• Refrigerator: complete model suffix, serial number, and voltage or energy type.
• Furnace or water heater: model, serial number, and gas/electric configuration.
• Air conditioner: rooftop model plus thermostat or control-box model.
• Leveling system: controller type, touch-panel version, and jack-system family.

Build a useful equipment record

Take one wide photo showing where the label sits and one close photo that keeps every character readable. Store the images with the RV VIN, manuals, warranty records, and the date the equipment was installed or serviced.

When requesting help, include the exact displayed code, operating mode, power source, outside temperature, and what happened immediately before the fault. Those details are often more useful than a long list of parts already replaced.

Do not guess at a damaged label

If the plate is unreadable, use purchase records, the coach build sheet, or an authorized service center. Do not select a manual only because its cover photo looks similar. Wiring, refrigerant, fuel, and control-board revisions may not be visible from outside.
