Open the normal service access and photograph the generator label without removing energized covers. Cummins identifies generators by product family, model code, specification letter, and serial number. The specification revision can change required parts within the same marketed series.
Decode the kit chart
Cummins publishes maintenance-kit part numbers by model and fuel. For example, gasoline and LP versions of the KY family use different kits because the LP kit does not need the same fuel-filter components. Diesel families include different oil quantities and filter sets.

Kit convenience vs individual parts
A kit reduces the chance of omitting a routine item and is convenient to carry. Individual genuine parts may be more economical when only one interval item is due. In both cases, compare the included list with the maintenance schedule rather than assuming every service requires every component.
Check the interval before ordering
Cummins states that oil is generally changed every year or 150 hours, whichever comes first, while the exact manual controls and harsh conditions may shorten intervals. Record hours and service dates. Fuel-system, valve, emissions, or internal repairs go beyond a basic owner maintenance kit.
